Myanmar is an excellent destination in Southeast Asia and one of the very few countries where tourism remains unspoiled. From ancient temples to pristine beaches, friendly people to tribal groups, traveling to Myanmar offers the ultimate diversity along with a ton of things to do.
Kick-off your Myanmar itinerary by spending a few days exploring Yangon. Wander around Shwedagon Pagoda in the evening, try the street food in Chinatown, see the Sule Pagoda, and take a stroll at Kandawgyi Park.
Head up to the north and visit Bagan, which is a massive area full of ancient Buddhist temples and pagodas. Renting an electric bike is a popular way to get around in Bagan and discover all the hidden temples.
Mandalay deserves a pit-stop for its surrounding area. Since there is not much to do in the city other than visiting Mandalay Hill, you should take day trips to Mingun Pagoda and the stunningly white Hsinphyume Pagoda.
If you are interested in a beach holiday, Ngapali is the place for it. You can just spend your time relaxing on the beach, enjoying the sunset, and going on fishing trips.
On the other hand, discovering the Mergui Archipelago will reward you with breathtaking white sand beaches and untouched nature. Other great beaches in Myanmar include Ngwe Saung, Nabule, and Kanthaya.
On the west coast, Mrauk U is another famous ancient site in Myanmar. While it’s not easy to get here, the town’s special atmosphere makes the trip worthwhile. Apart from exploring some of the most stunning temples here, you should make a visit to Chin Village.
Hpa-An is a popular backpacker destination in Myanmar that shouldn’t be missed. Climbing up to Mount Zwegabin, visiting the Saddar Cave, and seeing the Kyauk Kalap are some of the best things to do in Hpa-An.
