Located in the southern part of North America, Mexico has something to offer for any type of traveler. It is an excellent tourist destination thanks to its endless sunshine, wonderful food, gorgeous beaches, and historic ruins. From Mayan pyramids to stunning cenotes, there are so many things to do in Mexico.
Mexico City, the capital of Mexico, is full of historic buildings, world-class museums, and art galleries. Main attractions in Mexico city include Plaza de la Constitución, National Palace, Metropolitan Cathedral, and Templo Mayor.
A visit to Oaxaca is a must to get a taste of real Mexico. The town has a beautiful colonial architecture that remains untouched. You can’t miss the cultural events and festivals here, especially Guelaguetza in June.
In the eastern part, you should make Mérida your base and explore the Yucatan state. While there are many things to do in Mérida, you can easily take day trips to Chichén Itzá, Uxmal, Valladolid, Izamal, and Las Coloradas (Pink Lakes).
Another major attraction in Yucatan is discovering cenotes. Some of the most beautiful cenotes in Mexico are Cenote Dzonbacal, Calavera, X-batun, Pool Uinic, Ik Kil, Oxmán, and Suytun.
Mexico has so many amazing beach destinations which makes it difficult to choose one. While Cancún, Playa del Carmen, and Tulum are extremely popular for their luxurious resorts and crazy parties, Holbox is perfect for relaxing and having some quiet time.
Just off the coast, Cozumel offers an incredible diving experience with its coral reefs. No matter which beach town you go to, all these locations have excellent white sandy beaches and turquoise waters that will spoil you.
On the other side of the country, the Pacific Coast is just as amazing as the Caribbean Coast. Make sure to check out beaches at Puerto Vallarta and Los Cabos. If you are looking for yoga retreats and some surfing, head to Sayulita.
