Whether you and your partner want to get away from it all in a place with palm trees, rolling hills, or a desert, these places offer both romance and a chance to get away from it all.
Because a vacation with your partner shouldn’t feel like work, we’ve also focused on places that are easy to get to and don’t take too long to get to from major U.S. cities. So go ahead and put that smile on, and start that beautiful vacation with your loved one.
Miami Beach in Florida
With its hot Latin vibes, swanky bars and restaurants, and, oh yeah, beautiful people everywhere, Miami Beach is the perfect place for hot couples to go on vacation.
Get away from the crowds of South Beach at The Setai, Miami Beach, a quiet Asian-inspired enclave with a spa that will put you in a meditative state. Then, trick your meat-eating partner into eating a vegan meal at Planta South Beach, where the “meat lover’s pizza” is so buzzy and tasty, you’ll forget it’s meatless.
Bermuda
This island is only inhabited from April to September, when people from the East Coast flock to its pink-sand beaches to find a British version of the Hamptons.
Stay at Rosewood Bermuda, where the beach-modern suites have just been updated. You might want to relax on your balcony with a view of Castle Harbour, but it’s better to take a buggy down to the beach club for rosé, Bermuda fritters, and a swim in the crystal-clear water.
Scottsdale in Arizona
Whether or not you believe in the mystical traditions of the Southwest, there is no denying the romantic atmosphere of its major city, Scottsdale.
Feel it as you wander hand in hand through Old Town, replete with art galleries, taquerias, and stores offering turquoise jewelry pieces and hand-made books, all of which are inspired by the Sonoran Desert and the Caribbean.
Sonoma in California
The best wine region in California is getting a boost from new construction. One example is the remodeled MacArthur Place Inn & Spa, a small hotel in the heart of Sonoma with a restaurant called Layla that serves Mediterranean food.
For a unique way to taste wine, book an excursion with Bohemian Highway. You and a friend can explore the area’s vineyards in a pimped-out Land Rover (complete with a rooftop tent for camping out along the rugged Sonoma coastline).
Lanai in Hawaii
Hawaii is a classic romantic getaway for couples, but the Four Seasons Resort Lanai doesn’t do cheesy rose-petal turndowns.
This luxurious retreat on the less-visited island of Lanai recently started a charter service for up to six people, which gets you to the beach faster and, as a bonus, more stylishly (for only $250 per person).
Saint Vincent & the Grenadines
Thanks to more flights from the U.S. and a new international airport on the main island of Saint Vincent, this tiny island group is finally at the top of travelers’ lists.
People have been drawn to the posh island of Mustique for a long time, but you should also check out the less-visited island of Canouan. The Mandarin Oriental, Canouan just opened on Godahl Beach, one of the best spots in the whole Caribbean, with hillside villas and an overwater spa with a glass floor.
Rather be alone on an island? On the private island of Petit St. Vincent, the 22 separate cottages and hammock-equipped lounges along West End Beach make it easy to spend a lot of time alone.
Wyoming
A luxury dude ranch in the desert plains of southern Wyoming is the best place to live out your Wild West dreams. At the Magee Homestead, which is only for adults, couples can go on horseback rides, hikes, and bike trips every day to see the 7,000 acres of historic ranch land.
You’re more likely to see animals than people, since there are no more than 27 guests at a time. This gives you the quiet atmosphere you came for.
Cabo San Lucas in Mexico
Couples should go on vacation to Cabo just to watch the sun set over the Pacific. But with new resorts like Montage Los Cabos, which is on 39 quiet acres in front of Santa Maria Bay and has one of the only swimmable beaches in the area, and trendy farm-to-table restaurants like Acre Baja, couples will get even more for their Instagram money this year.
Saint Barth in the Caribbean
There is no more stylish Caribbean island than this one (St. Barthelemy), which looks like it belongs in the South of France.
Just flying over St. Jean Bay, which is full of red-roofed villas and sparkling yachts, will put you in a calm state of mind right away. Couples who like to be alone can stay at Le Sereno, an iconic Grand Cul-de-Sac resort with just 39 whitewashed rooms that has just been rebuilt.
You can dig your toes into the sand at Restaurant Le Sereno while you eat their famous gnocchi.
